The Scottish Dental Association is a new organisation set up to represent dentists in Scotland.
We are clear in regard to our remit, aims and aspirations and are creating a Limited Company operating on a non-profit basis. This ensures maximum transparency, which we feel is a particularly important at this time.
Board of Directors
The current Board is a group of likeminded dentists who have been working together, with the help of esteemed colleagues, to establish the Scottish Dental Association. They will be the formative Board of Directors, to provide initial steering and guidance for the group. This Board will pass over running responsibilities to the elected Committee in the coming months- ideally before the end of September 2020.
There will be a minimum of eight board members who will be governed by the Scottish Dental Association bylaws which will in turn regulate their appointment and/or resignation.
The responsibility of the Board is to ensure that the Committee drives the Association forward in a professional manner, with regards to its aims and remit. They will ensure all legal and technical responsibilities are met; also, that the Committee uphold its responsibility to SDA members. The current Board are very conscious of the fact that they are unelected and as such are happy to pass on their committee roles as/when required, following the election process.
Committee
It is essential that The Scottish Dental Association is managed by a committee which will be elected from the membership. The Committee is expected to be thirteen strong and the roles of Chair and Vice Chair will be allocated by their members. Our expectation is that it will be a cohesive, driven group of individuals who are prepared to sacrifice their own time to help improve dentistry in Scotland, for our patients and the profession.
Constitution
The constitution will be published in due course and will further outline the aims and structure of the association. One of the first jobs of the new Committee will be to review the constitution and ensure it is an effective and accurate document. A final draft of the constitution will be made before 17/07/21.
